Man robbed at gunpoint on Frye Road last night

An armed robbery in the Woodlawn area Tuesday night triggered a police search by air and ground, but no suspect was found.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. in the 8100 block of Frye Road (see map), according to today’s Fairfax County Police blotter. A man was walking down the street when another man approached and asked for a cigarette, police said. The second man then pulled a handgun out and asked for the victim’s wallet and backpack.

After the victim handed over his backpack and wallet, the assailant took off running, and police say the victim gave chase for awhile asking for his wallet back. The suspect was last seen on nearby Eubank Street.

The Fairfax1 police helicopter responded to the incident, and searched the surrounding area for the suspect for at least 30 minutes, according to witness accounts.

Police described the suspect as a black male, 5 foot 10 inches tall, average build, facial hair around the chin area, close-cropped hair, wearing a black jacket with a hood and a small logo on the left shoulder area, black pants and black shoes.
