Tanganyika “Tangy” Millard will be the next principal of West Potomac High School.

Millard was introduced to faculty and staff at a meeting Friday morning at the school, and an official announcement was sent out to the community by Region 3 Superintendent Terry Dade shortly afterward.

“Ms. Millard is well-known for her visionary and strategic leadership, and her passion for ensuring all students achieve to their fullest potential,” Dade said in the announcement.

Millard, who has more 20 years of experience as an educator, has served the past few years as principal of Bryant Alternative High School. Prior to that, she was Director of Student Services at Glasgow Middle School and as an assistant principal at Hayfield Secondary and Lee High School.

Millard has also worked as a school counselor at Falls Church High School, a teacher at St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C. and Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Maryland.

Millard earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Carnegie Mellon University and earned her Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University.

Millard officially begins July 5. She takes over for Dale Rumberger, who was brought in as interim principal in February after Alexander Case unexpectedly resigned earlier that month. Case had been at the school since 2013.
