Two Bros. Soul Food Kitchen and Lounge has closed temporarily to address issues that surfaced during their grand opening last weekend, its owners said Tuesday.

A reopening date of June 9 has already been set, owners David Roundtree and Andre Rush said.

“It’s a blessing in disguise,” said Rush, also the restaurant’s head chef. “We have to get this right before we keep going.”

The restaurant opened its doors for business Friday morning, and its food received overwhelmingly positive reviews from diners on social media. But behind the scenes there were “major electrical issues” that caused some of the cooking equipment to break down, the owners said.

More than 850 customers showed up for the restaurant’s first day of business on Friday, said Rush. The full house was far bigger than the crowd during the restaurant’s soft opening, and it created unexpected strains on the equipment.

“We had a full-run day and it showed us the defects with everything,” Rush said.

Rush said that many of the issues were related to the age of the building. Some problems have already been addressed, he said, and he’s confident Two Bros. will be ready to reopen “bigger and better” next week.

As an apology to customers who were turned away and as a measure of their gratitude for the support the restaurant has received, Rush and Roundtree said they will offer a 10 percent discount to all customers on June 9. Rush also said that the menu will be fine-tuned during the hiatus, and promises larger portions and “even better taste.”

“It’s going to be on point,” Rush said. “We’re thankful for everybody’s patience. We’re ready to make this happen.”
