Dale Rumberger and Mattie Palmore have been selected as the Mount Vernon District’s Lord and Lady Fairfax for 2017.

The Lord and Lady Fairfax awards honor two individuals from each magisterial district in the county for their volunteer work and leadership. The honorees from around the county will be honored next month at an event at the Fairfax County Governmental Center.

Mount Vernon Supervisor Dan Storck described Palmore as a “wonder volunteer” who has served more than 30 years as an advocate for the homeless, the mentally challenged, disadvantaged youth and senior citizens.

Palmore is the former director of the Good Shepherd Housing Families Homeless Transition Program, and co-founded the Women’s Group of Mount Vernon. She is now the Mount Vernon representative to the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board.

Rumberger worked in the Fairfax County Public School system for 33 years, serving as a teacher, principal and activities director. He’s still a consultant to FCPS and has been called on to serve as an interim principal on multiple occasions, including this year at West Potomac High School.

Rumberger has also worked as a volunteer and advocate in the community, and served recently as the president of the South County Federation.

Larry Clark and Marcia Hanson were the 2016 Lord and Lady Fairfax.
