Huntington Community Center is seen Jan. 19, one day after a fire forced the center to close.

The Huntington Community Center is set to reopen this Saturday after being closed since a January fire.

The center will be open from noon-8 p.m. on Saturday, according to Ben Boxer, a public information officer for Fairfax County. Next week the center will return to its regular weekday hours of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The center will also be ready to operate as a polling station for residents of the Grosvenor Precinct in the June 13 primary elections, according to a representative from the county’s office of elections.

Located at 5751 Liberty Drive, the center suffered interior damage when a fire broke out in the kitchen area on Jan. 18. There were no injuries in blaze, which the fire department said started after a plastic tray was accidentally left on top of a hot stove burner.

Repairs on the building took just under five months and cost $201,706, Boxer said. He said the kitchen area still needs some work done, but that is not expected to impact activities at the center.

While the center has been closed, all programs usually held there were moved to the Gum Springs Community Center.
