Driver seriously injured in overnight collision with tractor trailer

A man was seriously injured early this morning after his vehicle collided with a tractor trailer on Richmond Highway in the Hybla Valley area.

The driver of the car was medevaced to a local hospital with possible life-threatening injuries, but is now in stable condition, according to a police spokesman.

The incident happened around 1:50 a.m. when a Honda sedan exiting the McDonalds at 7614 Richmond Highway hit the tractor trailer, police said. The Honda became trapped under the truck, which was traveling southbound, and dragged about 50 feet, according to police. Firefighters responding to the crash needed to cut the driver of the Honda from the vehicle.

There were no other injuries, police said.  

The crash closed the southbound lanes of Route 1 for approximately two hours. One lane was eventually reopened and the scene was cleared around 6 a.m.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the incident is still under investigation, according to police.
