Beyer’s “Know Your Rights” forum on Monday fully booked, will be livestreamed online

Rep. Don Beyer’s “Know Your Rights” town hall meeting Monday night in Gum Springs is booked to capacity, but will be viewable online for anyone who was unable to sign up for a seat.

The event, advertised as a “forum on civil rights,” has already had to switch venues once because the original site at the Gum Springs Community Center quickly filled to capacity. The second venue, at the Bethlehem Baptist Church on Fordson Road, reached capacity two weeks ago, leading Beyer to announce new viewing options.

The meeting will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and will be livestreamed via Periscope on Twitter (twitter.com/RepDonBeyer) or on Facebook Live (facebook.com/RepDonBeyer).

Beyer, a second-term Democrat whose congressional district covers much of the Richmond Highway area,  has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump and his administration’s policies, particularly two executive orders restricting travel from predominantly Muslim countries.

Beyer has also spoken out against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency’s Feb. 8 arrests across from Rising Hope Mission Church near Richmond Highway.
